First of all, let me say how pleased I was with Robert's editing of my story, Armelle's War. I have learned while on my writing journey that all writers need an editor, but having made six or seven passes over my manuscript, I was under the impression that it was in pretty good shape. It looked to me as though it would only need a simple tidy up. How wrong I was. There are so many references on the net as to how a writer cannot see his or her own errors, and I have learned through Robert, just how true this is. When I received my edited manuscript back, I was not only amazed by how many corrections - from the simplest to several major - that he had made, but also with how much better the actual read was after his revision. The result was something akin to handing him a rock and having him return a polished gem to me. He improved my punctuation, moving commas and colons, etc. to their correct places. He didn't change my story, but improved its structure so that sentences flowed better and were more pleasing to the eye. At times he would contact me with updates on how he was doing, and often checked whether a course of action met with my approval. Without Robert's knowledge in editing my story, I believe it would have been a monstrous and tiring read that would have caused the reader to lose interest well before the end. Armelle’s War was my baby. I had spent three years working on it, and was quite naturally concerned about how somebody else would view it. Robert was mindful of my feelings as an author, and while he was not afraid to do what was necessary, he always stressed that all changes were subject to my approval. His use of track changes made it easy to compare the original with the alteration and to judge each change on its own merits. Releasing my first ever book to the world is one of the most frightening events that I could imagine, but with Robert's collaboration and skill, it is one that I now undertake with so much more confidence. My verdict is that having a professional editor work with an author is a must, and I will have no hesitation in working with Robert on any future writings that I can muddle through to completion. Nicholas Jansen. Author of Armelle's War. ====================================================== Troy Barnes - 24 September, 2013 I'm a self-published horror author of three full length novels and I realise the supreme importance of experienced eyes editing my work before it hits the market. You can't edit your own work after writing and reading it so many times. You don't see the errors. You are too emotionally connected to the project and it makes you oblivious to the obvious, no matter how much it stands out. This is where Rob and Looking for Clarity were fantastic. Rob was a great help when assisting with my second novel, Monochromacy, but he was instrumental in the success of my latest offering, The End Of Ever. He was professional and not only did he correct simple errors that my eyes no longer saw (after a while you read what's in your mind, not what's on the screen), he wasn't frightened to be honest with me about changes that should be made for improvement. His professional outlook and honest appraisal made The End Of Ever a better novel. I definitely recommend Looking for Clarity and will be personally using Rob's services again for future projects.
